Shaadi.com CEO Anupam Mittal on Friday wittily took a dig at Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal’s latest job listing. He took to social media to humorously weigh in on Goyal offering a position in his company without salary.
The matter began when the Zomato head shared an advertisement for a chief of staff role on the social media platform, X. Goyal said that the job role needed the selected candidate to donate Rs 20 lakh to Feeding India charity and also work for the first year without salary.
In response to the same, Mittal took to social networking platform, LinkedIn, and in a post admitted that he is searching for a chief of staff, however, he doesn’t fully understand what the position entails. He added that he will offer candidates salary from the first day of their job.
“All those who can't afford to pay my friend Deepi 20 lacs, pls send me your application. I am looking for a Chief of Staff too 💪 although I don't know exactly what one does, I figure it can be your first assignment,” he said in the post.
Mittal emphasised that the candidate would have to fulfill some other conditions to be eligible for the role. "You must be willing to put yourself through the following
Accept compensation from Day 1 > this requirement is negotiable
Send in your resume (ab tak kuch nahin phoda toh aagey kya hi)
Describe the role and the value so I can prep interview questions
Go through our HR team coz I don't get paid to screen candidates
Carry the title of ChiefOfWhat? for 6 months (the thick-skin test)
Work out of an actual office in Mumbai," he noted.
Going one step ahead, Mittal even urged interested individuals to apply before he changed his mind about the recruitment. The post quickly went viral and Netizens had a mixed response to the Shark Tank judge’s witty response.
One of the users noted, “Seriously people ? This post was hilarious and in good taste, unlike Goyal's which was just a hit and miss. I'd rather work with Anupam over many other founders just for his sense of humor and willingness to give people the opportunity to define their own trajectory. Kudos buddy Anupam Mittal”
Meanwhile there were others who felt that the entrepreneurs in the country were not setting a good example for the younger generation. One user noted, “First between Bhavish Agarwal and Kunal Kamra, and Second round is between Deepinder Goyal and Anupam Mittal - Forget the Hollywood, Bollywood, watch new Entrepreneurs, they are more entertaining instead!
Think they are setting a right tone for new generation who are looking upto them for inspiration? I would disagree.”
However, many individuals felt this move of marketing or negative marketing was a genius idea played well by both Goyal and Mittal.
