With rising fuel prices, electric cars had a newfound acceptance amongst Indian car buyers and that was also helped by numerous launches. 2022 saw a number of launches taking place in the EV space and mostly in the premium segment but there are more options for buyers now hence, with better-charging infrastructure, EVs will continue to increase their market share in the next year.

Tata Tiago EV

Tata Motors holds a vast majority in EV sales and it wants to maintain this by getting into different price points. After the Nexon EV and the Tigor EV, their Tiago EV is the most affordable electric car on sale in India while also having an impressive range of 315km at a very competitive price. It also comes with quite a lot of features.

Mercedes-Benz EQS

The EQS remains the best electric car that we have driven since it changes how EVs look or feel along with a range figure which is unmatched. The EQS 580 is the most efficient EV in terms of the maximum range per charge and it is a huge 857km per charge. Yet, despite being a luxury EV, it is locally assembled and that means it is competitively priced too. Along with the efficiency, the performance and driving experience is also impressive.

BYD Atto 3

BYD is a Chinese brand that is a huge name in the world of electric mobility. BYD entered the Indian market first with the e6 MPV but the Atto 3 is their first foray into the EV SUV space. It is a premium electric SUV that has a claimed range of 521 km while having an electric motor which develops 210bhp and 310Nm. The XC40 Recharge is Volvo's EV for India and it also comes in locally assembled form while getting an official claimed range of 418km via a 78kWh battery pack. The XC40 Recharge is based on the XC40 luxury SUV and comes with a dual motor layout for big performance since the car claims to have a 0-100 km/h time of just 4.9 seconds.

Mercedes-Benz EQB

The EQB is the first electric 7-seater SUV luxury SUV in India while having a claimed range of 423km.
