Royal Enfield Scram 411 Vs Himalayan: Which Bike Is A Better Buy?

It is better looking and makes a case as a less serious alternative to the Himalayan plus is likely to appeal more to a younger audience with its design.

New Delhi: The Himalayan has been a success in giving an affordable yet fun adventure motorcycle. It brought many first riders into the adventure class. However, the Himalayan might be too hardcore for everyday use hence Royal Enfield has brought out the Scram 411- a more urban Himalayan.

It is better looking and makes a case as a less serious alternative to the Himalayan plus is likely to appeal more to a younger audience with its design. Before specs, the biggest change is the design which is less off-road-ready like the Himalayan but more sporty too.

The colours are said to represent the cities at night hence the Scram 411 comes in Graphite Yellow, Graphite Red and Graphite Blue, plus having grey tanks and tank badges and matching tyre rim tapes. The Skyline Blue and Blazing Black have their own colour tanks with the Royal Enfield stripes and matching mudguards.

The top-end variant, in two colourways - White Flame and Silver Spirit - have dual tank colours with graphics. We think it actually looks more premium over the Himalayan while visually, there are smaller tyres with the Scram getting 19-inch, dual-purpose front tyres combined with the 17-inch rear tyres.

The headlamps are placed lower than the Himalayan while there is no windscreen as well. The bike is more accessible and more comfortable with a new single seat with a better finish too. You get the sense that the Scram 411 is more city-friendly with being less tall and easier to reach handlebars.

There is a digital-analogue instrument cluster plus the Royal Enfield Tripper Navigation pod is available as a MiY option on all variants of the Scram 411. Compared to Himalayan you do not get switchable ABS but that aside, a lot is shared with the Scram 411 including its suspension and the engine.

The engine continues to be the 411 cc, fuel-injected, 4-stroke, SOHC, air-cooled single-cylinder engine which develops 24.3 bhp at 6500 rpm and max torque of 32 Nm at 4000-4500 rpm.

The lesser ground clearance over the Himalayan at 200 mm means it is not as competent but it will still work in most off-road conditions while the lesser weight makes it easier to ride plus live with. That sums up the Scram 411 as it is a stylish and city-friendly version of the Himalayan but still being capable off-road.

It is easier for riders and makes sense for first-time adventure seekers who would have thought the Himalayan to be too hardcore. Priced at INR 2,03,085, the Scram 411 seems a better deal to us than the Himalayan.
