MG will call its new EV as Comet which takes its name from an old British aeroplane. The Comet would be a compact EV for urban cities while packing in premium features as well. MG will launch the Comet this year and it will come in a two-door format. The dimensions would be compact but due to its bespoke electric platform, the wheelbase inside would be spacious along with an airy cabin. The styling is futuristic too but the India spec version has yet to be revealed.

The Comet will not have any traditional rivals but in price wise it will compete with the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen C3 EV though being a 2-door the packaging and the positioning are different. Despite its size, the Comet would be well-equipped including dual screens though again the final India spec is unknown.

With cities being cramped, there is a need for an urban company electric car and that is what the MG Comet is all about. The car would be in the same vein as the likes of the Fiat 500 and others in being compact but feature-packed along with an adequate range. The car would have flexible charging capabilities while the two-door format will make it easy to park as well.

It will be interesting to see how the Comet would be positioned but the concept is new and the Comet will open a new segment altogether in terms of its design, looks and overall packaging.

The Comet will expand the MG electric range and will follow up the ZS in the Indian line-up. Expect more details to trickle in soon regarding the MG Comet.
