Vibrant Gujarat Summit: Maruti Suzuki showcased its future electric offering for the Indian market — the eVX — at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. The eVX is likely to be out before the financial year ends. The carmaker has announced that it will be launching its first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) for the Indian market within the compact SUV segment with the eVX production version.


The eVX will come with an estimated range of 550km and a 60kWh battery pack. Maruti Suzuki has also announced that it will invest another Rs 3,200 crore for a new production line at its Gujarat plant. There are plans for an additional investment of Rs 35,000 crore for a second plant in Gujarat.

The eVX, in its production form, would be built in Gujarat and would be rolled out before the end of the year. It would be exported to other markets around the same time. Global CEO of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Toshihiro Suzuki, said that the company will expand electric vehicle production. The company's new production line will produce 2.5 lakh units a year, he said. This will, in turn, increase the annual production capacity to 1 million units.

The eVX was first shown as a concept at the 2023 Auto Expo. The updated version is now being shown at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit,  marking the entry of Maruti Suzuki into the EV space with an SUV. The eVX would be highly localised for competitive pricing. The eVX will be built at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat and will have two battery pack options.
