We cannot have enough of SUVs and just like the year before, 2023 also saw some crucial SUV launches. These launches spanned through the luxury space to the compact segment amid a revival of off-road oriented SUVs. There was something for all in 2023.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The Jimny's launch was among the most anticipated events this year. Maruti Suzuki took its time, primarily to develop a 5-door version specifically for the Indian market, differing from the 3-door version sold elsewhere. Renowned as a robust SUV, the Jimny boasts standard 4x4 capability, offering a 1.5L petrol engine with both automatic and manual transmission options. This model marks Maruti Suzuki's return to the 4x4 segment, succeeding the iconic Gypsy.

Hyundai Exter

Hyundai ventures into the micro SUV segment with the Exter, positioned below the Venue. Despite its smaller size, the Exter introduces novel features uncommon in its segment or among its competitors, such as paddle shifters for the AMT and an expanded array of safety features. Available with a 1.2L petrol engine and both manual and AMT transmission options, the Exter adds another strong contender to Hyundai's lineup in the compact SUV segment. Notably, it also offers a CNG option for added versatility.

Honda Elevate

The Elevate marks Honda's debut in the compact SUV segment, developed specifically for our market using the City platform. Despite entering a competitive field, the Elevate distinguishes itself by offering the highest ground clearance and the most spacious boot in its class, while also incorporating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine shared with the Honda City, it provides the choice between CVT and manual gearbox options. For Honda, the Elevate stands as their most pivotal product yet in our market.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx

The Fronx is the smallest SUV from Maruti but is also the stylish one with a coupe like roofline which makes it stand out amongst rivals. While it is based on the Baleno, the Fronx comes with distinctive styling and has a good amount of ground clearance plus space. If we talk about the engine options, the Fronx comes with a 1.2l petrol engine with a manual and an AMT option while there is a more powerful turbo petrol unit which has a torque converter auto and a manual gearbox option as well.

BMW X1

The new generation X1 is indeed a hugely important car for BMW and is currently the best selling luxury SUV in India. The new XI is bigger, more spacious and gets a different cabin which borrows design elements from other premium BMW SUVs including a curved display plus climate control buttons on the touchscreen itself. The new X1 comes with diesel and petrol engines while it has grown up in its new generation form along with having more technology as well.
