Hyundai has shown a new variant of its MPV at the Indonesia Auto Show and it could be interesting for India. Hyundai has been absent from the MPV segment in India despite having shown a concept version many years back. There already exists an MPV in the Hyundai portfolio which is the Stargazer which now has a new off-road-ready variant. Shown in Indonesia, the Stargazer X is a more rugged-looking version of the Stargazer and comes with SUV styling touches. Hence you can see the cladding and the new 17-inch alloy wheels.

There is also a slightly updated styling theme with an extended rear spoiler while the front end remains radical with a full-length LED light treatment similar to the new Verna. There is also a number plate garnish and roof rails while the interior gets a rugged black colour. The features list is also enhanced with a Bose audio system. You can choose the Stargazer in a 6 or a 7-seater format and the interiors are feature packed with ADAS also.
Will the Stargazer come to India? With the success of the Innova and now the Hycross being positioned upmarket, the segment is dominated by the XL6/Ertiga and the Carens from Kia. The Stargazer can fit into that segment space while the radical looks are also a draw.
The Stargazer X comes with a CVT gearbox and a 1.5l petrol engine. The X variant looks more rugged and adds an SUV flavour to the design while the spacious cabin is also a highlight with the cab-forward design. We are not sure if the Stargazer will ever come to India but we think it has a chance to be highly successful here as a premium MPV.
