New Delhi: The Honda City has been one of the most famous brands and has been on sale for 25 years in India starting from 1998 with the first generation model. The current generation Honda City is also the first to get a hybrid powertrain amongst other new features while still being the best-selling car in its class. Here, we check out every generation of this sedan.
The Honda City is the longest-running mainstream model in the Indian automotive industry while the first Honda City was launched in 1998 and was on sale until 2003 with the start of the VTEC engine with 106 bhp along with being one of the first cars the enthusiast.
The second generation 2003 model Honda City saw a sedan based on the Jazz and was a huge success along with its space, design and features. It came with ABS and has a 1.5L i-DSI engine along with a CVT automatic.
The third generation 2008 model Honda City was a big change and had a sportier design along with a more powerful 1.5L i-VTEC engine. It also had Dual Front Airbags and ABS with EBD as standard in all variants. It was a big success at that time.
The fourth generation Honda City came into production in 2014 and was a more luxurious version with many added premium features and has a sunroof too. It came with a 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine along with the 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine which means for the first time, the City was available with a diesel.
The fifth generation City was launched in 2020 and has been a success along with being bigger, more spacious and having more technology like the lane-watch camera feature and more. Then recently Honda launched the City e: HEV, which is the first hybrid sedan in India.
