Waiting periods for SUVs are getting longer due to the ongoing chip shortage which means the SUV that you were looking to add to your garage will come a bit later than what you had anticipated in the first place. Here is a checklist of the current scenario in terms of the waiting period. Do note the waiting periods vary from city to city plus it depends on the variant/engine/gearbox too.
Hyundai Creta
India's most popular SUV continues to have a high waiting period regardless of variant or engine. The Creta currently has a 9 month waiting period for some variants like the automatic versions while a long waiting period for diesel/manual versions is also there. Seeing massive demand the Creta continues to have less production vs demand.
Mahindra Thar
Ever since its launch the Thar in its newest generation form has been a big success and so much so that Mahindra cannot make enough of them. Hence for variants like the diesel automatic or the petrol automatic, the waiting period actually goes into nearly a year! With production constraints the Thar will continue to have a high waiting list for now.
Nissan Magnite
The current shortage of critical components and demand means the Magnite is also seeing massive waiting periods. The nonturbo spec version is seeing 7 months of waiting but the turbo top-spec version is seeing a massive wait in some cases up to a year! The Magnite has been successful and top-end variants have the highest demand.
Mahindra XUV700
We have already talked about this as the XUV700 might just beat the Thar in terms of waiting period with 50k bookings already and Mahindra finding it difficult to meet demand. The XUV700 is seeing massive demand for both petrol and diesel powertrains while currently, it has to be around 6-7 months, the time can very well increase up to a year for select variants.
Kia Sonet
The Sonet is the highest-selling model for Kia in India and as a result, it has a long waiting list for certain cities and for certain models. The diesel automatic for one has a waiting list of close to six months while it ranges from place to place.
Tata Nexon
The Nexon can command up-to 4 months in some places while 2-3 months can be seen as par for course when buying the popular Nexon SUV. Sales of Nexon have grown a lot recently and the EV version is also seeing huge demand with long waiting periods in some cities.
