Festive Rush Brings In EV Sales At An All Time High But Still A Minority
While the Windsor is the highest selling EV, Tata Motors have the highest overall sales being the one with the biggest all EV range including the newly launched Curvv EV
EV sales in the passenger four wheeler space breached the 10,000 mark for the month of October. Total EV retail sales were 10,534 units which were a 73 percent increase from the September sales of 6094 units. EVs like the MG Windsor expanded the segment with sales of 3116 units and it has the highest selling EV for the month of October.
Even luxury EV sales rose when compared to previous months. For the EV industry it is good news since the sales fell off for the last month but the festive push increased it. It remains to be seen how the sales volumes would be sustained in the long run. While the Windsor is the highest selling EV, Tata Motors have the highest overall sales being the one with the biggest all EV range including the newly launched Curvv EV.
It sold more than 6000 plus units in October. Hence, it still has over 50 percent market share in EV sales for the October month. However, MG was the biggest gainer with its Windsor as the pricing as well as its battery rental scheme grabbed the headlines with high sales for the Windsor. The Windsor in fact is the first passenger car EV to get a sizable 15,176 bookings within 24 hours of booking being started.
The other players come in with Mahindra having its XUV400 EV and then BYD which also witnessed more increased sales with the XUV400 also having its best month overall. Currently there are still limited options for buyers but all that will change with Maruti, Toyota and Hyundai plus Mahindra bringing in more choices and will expand the segment. Compared to overall sales, EVs are still a minority but the fact is that it has seen an increase is good news for the EV industry.
