- It is believed that the influence of Shani is strongest before sunrise and at sunset. Therefore, it is good to worship Shani Dev before the sun rises and after it sets. Shani Dev grants the full benefits of worship performed at these times.
- The new moon (Amavasya) that falls on a Saturday is particularly auspicious for worship. Similarly, the full moon (Purnima) falling on a Saturday is also considered excellent for Shani's worship. Shani Jayanti is the most important day for worshiping Shani Dev.
- While worshiping Shani Dev, one should never look directly into his eyes. Ensure that when you worship Shani Dev, your eyes are either closed or focused on his feet. It is believed that looking directly into Shani Dev's eyes brings his harsh gaze upon you.
- While performing the worship, your face should be towards the west. One should never wear red clothes during the worship of Shani Dev. Blue and black are the favorite colors of Shani, and worship should be performed wearing clothes of these colors.
- Never show your back to the idol of Shani Dev, as it can invoke his displeasure. Lighting a mustard oil lamp under a Peepal tree on Saturday evening provides relief from Shani's adverse effects.
