Significance Of Parivartini Ekadashi 2024:

The significance of Parivartini Ekadashi is further enhanced as it is on this day that Lord Vishnu changes his sleeping position during his period of rest. Due to this shift, the Ekadashi is named "Parivartini," meaning "the one where the Lord turns." However, why does Lord Vishnu turn during the four-month period of Chaturmas? This question was once asked by Yudhishthira to Lord Krishna, and in response, Krishna narrated the following story related to Parivartini Ekadashi.

The Story Behind Parivartini Ekadashi:

Lord Krishna said: "O Yudhishthira! During the Treta Yuga, there was a devotee of mine named Bali. Though Bali belonged to the lineage of demons, he worshiped me daily with deep devotion. Along with this, King Bali would regularly perform Yajnas (rituals) and generously donate to Brahmins. However, one day, he became arrogant about his power and attacked Indralok (the realm of the gods), defeating it. As a result, he forced all the gods to leave Indralok.

Distressed by Bali, Indra and all the other gods came to Vaikunth Dham and chanted hymns in my praise. Their devotion interrupted my sleep, and I turned in my bed. After waking up, I assured the gods, telling them not to worry as I would soon devise a plan to return Indralok to them.

After the gods left Vaikunth, I took the form of a Vamana (dwarf) and went to King Bali. I asked him to grant me three steps of land. Bali, known for his generosity, readily agreed to my request. Upon receiving his consent, I began to grow in size. With one step, I measured the earth, and with the second step, I measured the heavens.

When I asked Bali where I should place my third step, he humbly offered his head. As soon as I placed my foot on his head, Bali descended to the underworld (Patal Lok). However, I was greatly pleased with his devotion and humility. Therefore, I made him the king of Patal Lok."
