Multi-Cultural Performances:
Music, dhol, and lezim will form a part of the procession, which will be a colourful start for the festival. It will be followed by aarti and Atharvashirsha, which the children in the age group of 10-16 years will chant. Other cultural programs that would be held between 1 to 8 pm on both days include traditional Indian dance, western music and folk dances of countries like Greece, China and Latvia. Talents from participants in different age groups will showcase their talents once again, symbolising the diverse spirit of South Australia.
History And Highlights Of This Tradition:
The 21-foot-high Ganesh idol shipped from India in 2022 is one of the major highlights. The event originally started in 2016 on a very small scale with a 14-foot idol but has been growing in popularity year after year. Last year, it gathered a crowd of approximately 14,000 people. The festival also involves young people in the organization and delivery as part of the cultural learning and appreciation.
Preparations Of This Program:
The event is subsidised by State Government Multicultural grants and financially supported by local businesses and donations of festival attendees. It gives an opportunity for local artists, choreographers, and businesses to be recognised and assume some responsibility in the community. Hon Zoe Bettison MP and Hon Joe Szakacs MP will also be in attendance, reflecting the role of this festival in strengthening bonds within the community. The event will conclude with the traditional Ganesh visarjan-a bright and festive farewell to the main idol of the festival, accompanied by ebullient music and dance.
