Chennai: Parts of Visakhapatnam experienced mild tremors on Sunday with panic-stricken people running out of their homes for safety. The tremors were felt in a few places of Vizhagapattinam including Akkayyapalem, Asillametta, Seethammadhara, Gurudwara, Muralinagar, Kommadi, Sagar Nagar, Gajuwaka, Peda Waltair Simhachalam and others, where people of the high-rise homes rushed to the streets.
According to a report on Times of India, residents said that they have been experiencing mild tremors for the past seven days. However, the tremor witnessed on Sunday was at a higher magnitude of 3.6 and with an explosive sound. The epicenter of the tremor was identified as the part of the city which is 9.2 km to the northeast of Gajuwaka area.

Some of the people left their homes and were on the streets on Sunday. However, no damages to property have been reported and no one was injured due to the tremors.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) confirmed that the tremor was felt at 7.20 AM and took to social media to mention about the precautionary measures during an earthquake.
The GVMC said, "In the event of an earthquake follow Duck-Cover-Hold principle, rush to an open area and switch off electricity from the mains."
In the Dont's, GVMC said, "Do not stand close to high rise buildings, weak houses and windows and do not stand close to electric poles and under a tree."
"Do not use the lift in the event of earthquakes and avoid going to beaches." the GVMC said. The Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation also issued a toll-free number 1800-4250-0009 for help.
