Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh celebrated 73rd Republic Day with the announcement to create 13 new districts. The new districts will come into existence from Ugadi (the Telugu New Year). On Wednesday, a notification to double the number of districts in the state to 26 was cleared by the cabinet.
On 73rd Republic Day, the Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan unfurled the national flag at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Vijayawada.
The function was attended by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Legislative Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram, Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshen Raju, several ministers, MLAs and senior government officials. Visitors are not allowed because of restrictions on mass gathering due to the surge in Covid-19 cases.
Governor Bishwabhushan said that the YSRCP government led by YS Jagan has fulfilled 95 per cent of the promises made during the elections.

He said that the state government was implementing 'Navaratnas' to help individuals of all sections of the society. He went on to say that the Rythu Bharosa Kendras are the need of the hour in the country and are a pioneer in agriculture.
Governer said under the Matsyakara Bharosa Scheme, the government has established fishing harbours and aqua centres for fishers. He stated that the Nadu-Nedu scheme is developing schools and institutions.
We provide Jagananna education kits to students in schools. So far, Rs 34,000 crore has been spent on education, the governor added.
He said that the administration would commence from Ugadi in all the 26 districts, 13 are newly included districts. He explained that the new 13 districts were established to decentralise development and improve civic services.
