Hyderabad: Renowned Telugu lyricist Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry passed away at the age of 66 on Tuesday due to lung cancer. He was undergoing treatment at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital in Hyderabad.
Sastry was admitted to KIMS hospital on November 24 with pneumonia and was under close observation as he was put on ECMO to support his lung, said the hospital bulletin.
Sastry entered the Telugu film industry as a lyricist with the movie Janani Janmabhoomi, in the year 1984. He penned dialogues and songs for some of the best films in Telugu such as Kshana Kshanam, Swarnakamalam, Swayamkrushi, Okkadu, Nuvve Kavali and many more good films.

Chembolu Seetharama Sastry, better known as Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry, has penned lyrics for over 3,000 songs till 2020. He had also received India's fourth-highest civilian award Padma Shri for his contributions in the field of arts and aesthetics, along with 11 state Nandi Awards and four Filmfare Awards South for his contribution to the entertainment industry as a lyricist.
