Rajya Sabha MP GVL Narasimha Rao on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for beginning a new digital era with the launch of 5G services in 13 cities across the nation in a letter to Union Minister for Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw.


MP Narasimha Rao urged the Union Minister to include Visakhapatnam and tier two cities like Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, and Tirupati from Andhra Pradesh in the next batch of cities to be considered for the launch of 5G services. He claimed that the ultra-high-speed internet 5G technology would usher in a digital and economic revolution.


Due to Visakhapatnam's rapid growth, MP Narasimha Rao specifically highlighted the necessity to offer 5G services to the city on a priority basis. He added that Visakhapatnam is home to the Eastern Naval Command's headquarters and significant Indian Coast Guard operations, in addition to other vital assets like the Visakhapatnam Port, Hindustan Shipyard Limited, Hindustan Petroleum, SAMEER, etc.

PM Modi on Saturday launched the 5G Services in India at Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. Speaking at the launch of 5G services in Delhi, PM Modi called it a historic day for the 21st century of India. He also said that 5G technology would revolutionise the telecom sector. PM Modi also said that the new India will not remain a mere consumer of technology but will also play an active role in developing and implementing that technology. 


He stated that 5G services would significantly improve the nation's digital ecosystem, guarantee last-mile service delivery, and hasten the country's socioeconomic development.


Between 2023 and 2040, it is predicted that 5G technology will boost India's GDP by USD 450 billion. In India, 5G has the potential to be transformational. Once constructed, it will support up to one million linked devices per square kilometre, vs just 2,000 under 4G.
