Chennai: A week after AIADMK headquarters was sealed following unrest created by O Panneerselvam faction, Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered to hand over the key of AIADMK headquarters to current AIADMK Interm General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswamy.


The court further stated that the party cadres or workers are not allowed to enter the AIADMK office for a month located in Chennai's Royapetta to avoid untoward incidents and police protection should be given to party headquarters.

On Tuesday (July 19), Palaniswami announced that former AIADMK Minister RB Udhayakumar has been unanimously elected as deputy leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the post which was previously held by ousted AIADMK leader Panneerselvam.


Amid unrest between Panneerselvam and Palaniswami's factions, AIADMK General Council on July 11 appointed the latter as the party's interim General Secretary. In the crucial party meet, it was also announced that the general secretary election will be held in four months.


In the General Council meeting, OPS has been expelled from all party posts, which triggered furore among his loyalists. Leaders from OPS camp broke into the AIADMK headquarters and started to violently protest against the decisions made in the meeting. After which the revenue officials ended up sealing the party head office.
