BJP state president Somu Veerraju stated that Amaravati should be the state capital and clarified that the BJP was establishing a state office in Amaravati.
Andhra Pradesh: The 'Maha Padayatra' of Amaravati farmers entered the 21st day on Sunday. Reiterating the party stand that Amaravati should be the capital of Andhra Pradesh, BJP national general secretary D Purandeswari, along with other BJP leaders, including Somu Veerraju, Sujana Chaudhary, Kanna Lakshminarayana, Kamineni Srinivas, several farmers and leaders of various parties, participated in the walkathon that started from Rajuvari Chintalapalem in the Nellore district.
Addressing the mediapersons along with the BJP state president Somu Veerraju, Purandeswari said that her party's position was clear that Amaravati should remain the capital of Andhra Pradesh and stated that the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would endeavour to provide justice to the farmers in the capital region.
BJP state president Somu Veerraju stated that Amaravati should be the state capital and clarified that the BJP was establishing a state office in Amaravati, adding the central government has funded many development projects in the region.
"The BJP has consistently backed Amaravati. However, we did not actively participate in the struggle because the case was still pending in the High Court. Now that the court said the padayatra could be held and after our recent discussion with Union home minister Amit Shah in Tirupati, we decided to join the farmers' padayatra," said former union minister Purandeswari.
The BJP national general secretary also said that the BJP's commitment towards Amaravati was obvious from the fact that BJP-led Centre has released Rs 2500 crore for the essential infrastructure development in the region besides several other projects. She also demanded the YSRC government to fulfil the promise of providing developed plots to 23,000 farmers in Amaravati.
