New Delhi: Nine persons including the bus driver have died and several injured when a state-run RTC bus plunged into the Jalleruvagu in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district on Wednesday. Of the nine killed five are women.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed anguish over the incident and has announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the family of the bereaved.
The accident reportedly happed as the bus driver in order to avoid a collision with the truck that came in opposite direction on a narrow bridge tried to swerve but lost control and plunged into the water body. The bus was heading towards Jangareddygudem in West Godavari district from Aswaraopet in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, in which at least 47 passengers were there at the time of the accident.

Police and the rescue team rushed to the spot soon after the accident took place. Eluru RDO Prasanna Lakshmi said that the rescue operations are underway and 13 injured passengers were sent to Eluru government hospital, reports Sakshi Post.
West Godavari SP Rahuldev Sarma speaking to the media said that process of taking the bus out of the stream is underway to check if people are still trapped. Other drivers were also been called to help for the rescue operation, he added.
