New Delhi: As campaigning heats up for the 2022 Punjab Assembly polls, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday took a jibe at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo reaches wherever elections happen.
Continuing her tirade, she said Kejriwal did the same in the last assembly polls and made false promises to the people of Punjab.
“Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal reaches wherever elections happen. He did the same in 2017, made false promises. He wasn’t seen in five years even after the AAP became Opposition in Punjab. Neither he nor his MLAs have been seen in the last 5 years here,” she said, ANI reported.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Chief Minister announced that his party would take out a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ in memory of the martyrs of Punjab and appealed to the people to join the same.
“We are going to Jalandhar where we will take out a ‘Tiranga Yatra’. I appeal to the people to join the yatra in large numbers. Punjab is a land of martyrs. It gave birth to several freedom fighters. ‘Tiranga Yatra’ will be taken out in their memory,” he told the media in Amritsar.
In the 2017 elections, the Congress won an absolute majority in Punjab emerging victorious in 77 seats in the 117-member assembly.
The Congress, which was then led by former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, ousted the SAD- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance government after 10 years in Punjab.
The AAP had emerged as the second-largest party winning 20 seats, while the SAD and BJP bagged only 15 seats and 3 seats respectively.
