Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh government has started providing financial assistance to farmers whose crops have been damaged due to Cyclone Gulab, that hit the state in September this year.
Andhra Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday deposited Rs 22 crore from the camp office to the bank accounts of farmers whose Rabi crops were damaged due to the cyclone. A total of 34,586 farmers will be benefited by this move of the state government.
So far, the Andhra Pradesh government has provided crop compensation of Rs 1,071 crore to 13.96 lakh farmers under the input subsidy.
Under this move, the village secretariates have been entrusted with the responsibility to make a list of farmers who are need in need of the monetary assistance and the compensation would be paid accordingly.
Meanwhile, state government authorities have formed field teams to assess the damage caused by the recent two-week rain.
About 62 per cent of the people in Andhra Pradesh are dependent on agriculture, the Chief Minister said, adding that the state government is always ready to support them.
