London [U.K.] Sept. 23 (ANI): British Prime Minister Theresa May has proposed pausing full Brexit for the transition period of two-year, until 2021, during which Britain would effectively keep its existing relationship with the European Union and enjoy unfettered access to the single market.

She said the UK government would be prepared to accept European Union's rules in that time, including allowing EU citizens to live and work in Britain, reported the Guardian.

May, while speaking at the Santa Maria Novella church in the heart of Florence in Italy, said more time was needed to work on the details of Brexit.

The Prime Minister said that the proposed implementation phase would be strictly time-limited and will last exactly in "about two years" and the UK would still be formally leaving the bloc in March 2019.

On March 29, 2017, the UK triggered Article 50 of the Treaty on the European Union, as per which they have to leave the EU by March 2019. (ANI)
