Washington D.C. [USA], Feb 24 (ANI): United States President Donald Trump on Friday slammed Russia, Iran and Syria's actions in the ongoing Syrian civil war as 'disgraceful', according to media reports.

"I will say what Russia, Iran and Syria have done recently is a humanitarian disgrace. What those three countries have done to those people over the last short period of time is a disgrace," Trump said.

Elaborating on the US role in Syria to stop the civil war, Trump added, "We're there for one reason, we're there to get ISIS (Islamic State) and get rid of ISIS and go home. We're not there for any other reason and we've largely accomplished our goal."

Trump also went on to criticise Russia, who are also conducting airstrikes in the besiege Eastern Ghouta region in Syria, who were "uniquely responsible" for the alarming rise in the death toll.

As of now, regime forces have conducted bombings and airstrikes in Eastern Ghouta over the week, killing over 400 people, which also included hundreds of women and children, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).

A day after Russia vetoed a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution on the situation in Syria's conflicting region of Eastern Ghouta, the UNSC council will vote on a decree on Friday, calling for a 30-day ceasefire in the war-torn nation, and allowing humanitarian aids be supplied to the area that has been largely exhausted.

Eastern Ghouta, which houses around 400,000 residents, has remained under a crippling regime siege for the last five years.

In May last year, Russia, Iran and Turkey signed an agreement to set up de-escalation zones, in order to prevent airstrike-related incidents in some parts of Syria.

The de-escalation zones include- Idlib province, some parts of Latakia province, Hama and Aleppo provinces, Homs, Eastern Ghouta, Daraa and al-Quneitra provinces in southern Syria.

Syria has been embroiled in a civil war since 2011. Protesters have been long demanding the resignation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over his autocratic rule. (ANI)
