New York [USA], Sept 21 (ANI): In the wake of high magnitude tremors jolting Mexico yesterday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday said that that all Indians in Mexico are safe.

The earthquake has claimed 200 lives and caused severe infrastructural damage.

Swaraj made this announcement after talking to India's Ambassador to Mexico Muktesh Pardeshi.

"I have spoken to our Ambassador in Mexico. All Indians are safe," she tweeted.

"My deepest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in the second earthquake in Mexico @LVidegaray. India stands with Mexico in this hour of grief @LVidegaray," Swaraj said in a series of tweets.

The natural calamity has caused serious damage to lives and property in the region.

The number is expected to rise as many bodies are trapped under collapsed buildings, reported the CNN.

Citing the US Geological Survey, CNN reported that the epicentre of the of the quake was 4.5 kilometers east-northeast of San Juan Raboso and 55 km southwest of the city of Puebla.

According to the reports, the quake was felt in the center of Mexico City, which is only about 121 km from the epicenter.

The earthquake struck at a depth of about 33 miles (51 km).

Several buildings in Mexico City were severely damaged and thousands of people were seen fleding from the office buildings. (ANI)
