Seoul, [South Korea] May 9 (ANI): The recently-concluded China-North Korea summit will help to promote denuclearisation in the Korean peninsula, according to the South Korean unification ministry.

On Monday, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un flew to Dalian, where he held long rounds of discussions with Chinese officials, attended a formal banquet, and took a stroll on a beachfront sidewalk with Chinese president Xi Jinping.

South Korean Unification Ministry spokesman Baik Tae-Hyun, while addressing the media, said that the meeting came at a time when the Korean peninsula was facing challenges, reported Xinhua.

Baik Tae-Hyun further said that that trust-building was crucial for a nuclear-free and a peaceful Korean peninsula.

The meeting between Xi and Kim, their second meeting in two months, followed the April 27 inter-Korean summit between Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in and came ahead of the upcoming summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump. (ANI)
