London [UK], August 26 (ANI): Buckingham Palace was locked down on Friday night after a man attacked police officials with a knife in which two police officers were injured, said police.

The suspect was tackled by officers at the scene on the Mall and held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and assault on police, The Telegraph reported.

It quoted Metropolitan Police as saying that it was too early to state whether the incident was terror related.

London Ambulance Service treated the two injured officers at the scene.

"Initial reports suggested the man had been armed with a sword but the Metropolitan Police described the weapon as a knife," reported Independent.

The Met Police tweeted: "Officers are on scene at the Mall o/s Buckingham Palace. A man has been arrested on suspicion of GBH and assault on police."

Two officers suffered minor injuries while detaining the man, police said.

Officers are present at the scene of the incident and no other persons have been injured.

Police officers are on the spot and further enquiries are ongoing. (ANI)
