Writer Geeta Mehta refuses to accept Padma Shree award

 Among late actor Kadar Khan, cricketer Gautam Gambhir and former diplomat S Jaishankar, 112 other persons awarded with Honorable Padma Shree award on Friday. Of these 112, writer Geeta Mehta, who is the sister of Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik has refused to accept the Honorable Padma Shree. 

The same was made public via a press note which was released from New York.

Speaking on the same, It was said that the “timing of the press release was not right, as elections are around the corner and people who link the acceptance of the award with elections.”
