Two killed in violence erupted during Ram Navmi celebrations in West Bengal

Violence revolving around Ram Navami processions broke out in multiple pockets in Bengal and led to at least one death in North 24-Parganas since Sunday night.

While the Asansol administration was trying to restore peace, Babul Supriyo, the Union minister of state for heavy industries and public enterprises and BJP MP from Asansol, tweeted graphic details about the clashes in Raniganj, which falls in his constituency.

The tweets identified a section of the victims by their religion and clearly indicated the purported community to which the alleged perpetrators belonged.

Mamata Banerjee on Monday asked senior police officers to crack down on armed processions and warned that law enforcers who overlooked such marches would face stern action.

At an administrative review meeting of South 24-Parganas district in Pailan on Monday, the Bengal chief minister came down heavily on armed Ram Navami marches held across the state on Sunday. 

The Union minister also uploaded a video clip and a graphic photograph within a few hours of the violence being reported from Raniganj, West Burdwan.
