Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi condemned the death of an elephant in Mallapuram, Kerala, and called it a murder. The elephant was fed cracker-ingested pineapples and was pregnant when she died.
Tearing into Mallapuram administration and Kerala government, Gandhi said, "It's murder, Malappuram is infamous for such incidents, it's India's most violent district. For instance, they throw poison on roads so that 300-400 birds & dogs die at one time. Forest Secretary should be removed, the minister (for wildlife protection), if he has any sense, should resign. Rahul Gandhi is from that area, why has he not taken action?"
