 King Vikramaditya made the temple but was destroyed by Aurangzeb in 1664 and made the mosque claimed by Hindus. After 1669, Queen Ahilyabai made another temple adjacent to the mosque. There’s a precious shrine of Lord Shiva beneath the mosque, also claimed by the Hindu community. Now, the Archaeological Survey of India initiated a survey determine whether the mosque was built on top of a temple or not. However, SC ordered ASI to suspend the ongoing survey until July 26th due to objections from the Muslim community about excavating under the mosque.
