Tesla Model Y Debuts In India As SpaceX Returns Hero; Tech Dreams Meet National Pride

ABP News Bureau   |  16 Jul 2025 11:02 AM (IST)

On 15th July, India witnessed two major tech milestones — the grand entry of Tesla in Mumbai and the heroic return of astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla after his 18-day mission with SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk. Coincidentally, Musk's Tesla launched its first Experience Center at BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex), Mumbai, making its long-awaited debut in India.Tesla’s Model Y, the best-selling EV globally, is the first car to be sold in India. Available in RWD and AWD variants, it’s priced at ₹61.95 lakh to ₹69.5 lakh on-road, significantly higher than its U.S. counterparts due to high import duties (70–110%). Tesla offers optional Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities for an extra ₹6 lakh, though Indian law currently prohibits autonomous driving. The futuristic Model Y features panoramic sunroof, intelligent crash alerts, 600+ km range, and autonomous tech, making it India’s most advanced EV. Bookings are now open in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram, with deliveries expected by October 2025.Meanwhile, Elon Musk’s long-pending entry into India has stirred debate, as local automakers like Tata and Mahindra protest potential import duty waivers. Two global dreams—space conquest and sustainable mobility—merged into a single proud Indian day.
