The Waqf (Amendment) Bill proposes renaming the Waqf Act, 1995, to the ‘Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development Act, 1995’. The bill, which was distributed to Lok Sabha members on Tuesday night before its introduction, includes a provision to remove Section 40 of the current law. This section pertains to the board's powers to determine whether a property is classified as Waqf property, and its removal has sparked considerable debate.
