View In AppIn Kerala's Wayanad district, heavy rainfall early Tuesday morning caused landslides that resulted in at least 126 deaths and 128 injuries. By the end of Tuesday's rescue operations, over 800 people were safely evacuated, but the death toll may rise as many are feared trapped under debris. The landslides destroyed homes, flooded rivers, and uprooted trees, leaving residents with no chance to escape. Rescue teams from the army, navy, and NDRF are searching for victims amid adverse weather conditions, and several agencies are providing essential assistance. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed that the bodies are being identified and handed over to families. More than 3,000 people have been relocated to 45 relief camps in the district. Former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi mentioned the tragedy in Parliament and may visit Wayanad soon.
