View In AppPolitical activity is intensifying ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, and in a significant announcement, Maratha leader Manoj Jarange Patil has decided not to field candidates in the elections. Previously, Jarange had planned to support 20-25 Maratha candidates. He also mentioned supporting two candidates for the Parvati and Daund Assembly seats on Sunday, though he did not disclose their names. The decision for Maratha candidates not to contest is expected to benefit the Maha Yuti alliance the most. This is because the participation of Maratha candidates could have led to a coalition between Marathas, Dalits, and minorities. Several Dalit and Muslim leaders had met with Jarange on Thursday, raising concerns that this could harm the Maha Yuti's prospects. The BJP is particularly at risk, as Jarange had announced candidates for 13 seats, seven of which are currently held by BJP legislators. Additionally, two seats are controlled by Shiv Sena, two by the NCP, and two by Congress.
