View In AppAfter independence, Europe was a low-priority region in India's foreign policy. India primarily focused on relations with four major European countries—Russia, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. However, this foreign policy has changed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office. PM Modi's visits to Ukraine and Poland are steps towards strengthening relations with Europe. On Wednesday, PM Modi mentioned India's policy of non-alignment, stating, "For decades, India's policy was to maintain equal distance from all countries. Today, India's policy is to build close relations with all countries." India is striving to become a 'world friend' by strengthening ties with Central and Eastern European countries, while also maintaining its relationship with Russia. Through his visit to Ukraine, PM Modi aims to demonstrate that India has always been a peace-loving nation. India advocates for peace and seeks to end conflicts. If India succeeds in its efforts in Ukraine, its image as a global friend will be further solidified. This increases the significance of PM Modi's visit, as peace would elevate India's stature in the world.
