A resolution passed by 27 NDA lawmakers at CM N Biren Singh's initiative the night before was rejected by Meitei and Kuki groups on Tuesday. One group called it "ethnic persecution" and the other objected to planned security operations being limited to Kuki militants who are suspected of killing six inmates at a Jiribam shelter.
The state government was given a 24-hour window to amend the resolution to "initiate mass operations against the Kuki militants responsible for the killing of six innocent women and children in Jiribam within seven days" by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), a pressure group that represents the valley's primarily Meitei community.
