View In AppTata Group Chairman and veteran industrialist Ratan Tata passed away late on Wednesday night (October 9, 2024) at a hospital in Mumbai. He was 86 years old. A senior police official informed news agency PTI that Padma Vibhushan awardee Ratan Tata breathed his last around 11:30 pm at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai. He had been admitted to the hospital for the past few days due to health concerns. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Ratan Tata would be accorded a state funeral with full honors. In a statement, the Tata family expressed their gratitude for the love and respect shown towards Ratan Tata by his admirers and supporters. The family said, "We find solace in the love and respect extended by his brother, sister, family, and all those who held him in high regard. Though Ratan Tata is no longer with us in person, his legacy of humility, generosity, and purpose will continue to inspire future generations." Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran described Ratan Tata as both a friend and a mentor. He said, “We bid a deeply sorrowful farewell to Ratan Naval Tata. He was a truly exceptional leader, whose invaluable contributions not only shaped the Tata Group but also had a profound impact on the fabric of our nation.” He further added that under Ratan Tata’s leadership since 1991, the Tata Group expanded its global presence significantly. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on Ratan Tata's demise, calling him a visionary business leader and an extraordinary human being. Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Ratan Tata's most unique quality was his ability to dream big and his passion for giving back. He was at the forefront of advancing issues such as education, healthcare, sanitation, and animal welfare.” Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari also expressed deep sorrow at Tata's passing, describing him as a great son of India.
