Known as the confluence of faith and tradition, the event attracts devotees and tourists from across the globe. This spiritually significant event, considered a source of all attainments, will take place from January 13 to February 26, starting with the Paush Purnima Snan and concluding with the Mahashivratri Snan.
Prayagraj is home to the ancient Nag Vasuki temple, located north of the Sangam. Devotees believe that a pilgrimage to this holy city is incomplete without visiting this temple, where Vasuki, the king of serpents, is enshrined.
The MahaKumbh occurs every 12 years at four sacred locations—Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. The timing of the event is determined by celestial alignments, particularly the positions of Jupiter and the Sun. Jupiter’s entry into Aquarius and the Sun’s presence in Aries mark the auspicious occasion.
This event also holds mythological significance, as it commemorates the divine battle during Samudra Manthan for Amrit, the nectar of immortality. Devotees believe that bathing at the Sangam during the Kumbh absolves sins and grants liberation. The 2025 MahaKumbh will feature six Shahi Snans, with the first on January 13 and the last on February 26.
