A total of 20 candidates are vying for the seat, which spans five districts — three in Kashmir and two in Pir Panjal Jammu. However, the primary contest is between National Conference's Mian Altaf, Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti, and Apni Party's Zaffar Manhas.

Initially, the parliamentary constituency was scheduled to go to the polls on May 7, but the Election Commission of India (ECI) rescheduled the polling date to May 25 due to concerns about inclement weather. Anantnag Constituency of Jammu & Kashmir was won by Hasnain Masoodi in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections from JKN party. Ghulam Ahmad Mir was the runner-up from Anantnag who lost by 6676 votes. belonged to INC. In 2019 Lok Sabha Polls, Hasnain Masoodi got 40180 votes and won by a margin of 6676 votes.
