View In AppThe Kota city police administration in an unique initiative has joined hands with social medial platform site Meta to prevent students from being driven to suicide. Following this collaboration, Meta will track the social media accounts of students and alert the local police for timely intervention, in case they find any hint of a suicidal tendency. "In Rajasthan, the Meta site is operational only in Kota. If any suicide related case comes on Facebook, Instagram then Meta will forward it to us. Then we will login. After login we will track the number and take out all details, no matter where that 'event' is from -- Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Jaisalmer etc. Once we have the information, we forward it to the relevant official and then follow it up with them. The official informs us about the action being taken like reaching the location, talking to the parents." says Kota Police. The command centre will operate round the clock and cater to cases from across Rajasthan. In its first intervention, the police say, they managed to avert a possible suicide of a student from Jhunjhunu. Kota city is an education hub where lakhs of students come every year to prepare for competitive examinations, majorly engineering and medical. The city had gained notoriety for a number of suicide cases of students who allegedly could not take the pressure of preparing for the competitive exams. This year alone, 9 students have already taken their lives prompting many institutes to take preventive measures like installing a wire mesh in balconies and anti-hanging devices in room fans.
