View In AppWomen in border areas near Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri are being empowered through the NRLM UMEED Scheme. Many women have joined NRLM and established various businesses to earn a livelihood. Mushroom cultivation, silkworm farming, dairy units, and strawberry cultivation are some of the businesses which women have adopted, adding meaning to their lives.
Previously, these areas were affected by shelling, disrupting daily life. However, after the ceasefire, women have found relief and started earning on their own. Earlier, women were dependent on others for their livelihood, but now they feel empowered and independent with this UMEED Scheme.
The NRLM UMEED Scheme, coupled with support from banks, provides loans at low interest rates, enabling women to set up businesses and become self-employed. This initiative aims to transform the lives of poor women living in close proximity to the Line of Control (LOC) in Noushera Sub Division of Rajouri district.
