On the occasion of Yoga Day, all the government ministers and officials are going to be seen doing yoga at different places. This year the 10th International Yoga Day is being celebrated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is celebrating Yoga Day on Friday (June 21) in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. He has reached here for the first time after becoming Prime Minister for the third time. This year the theme of Yoga Day is 'Yoga For Self and Society', which emphasizes on the impact it has on the health of the self and the community. The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in the program 'Empowerment of Youth, Change in Jammu and Kashmir' at Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Center (SKICC) in Srinagar during the day. Officials said that more than 7,000 people are joining them to do yoga on the banks of Dal Lake on Friday. International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on 21 June to highlight its benefits for overall health and well-being. In 2014, the United Nations designated June 21 as International Yoga Day worldwide. PM Modi had proposed the idea of a global day dedicated to yoga during his address at the United National General Assembly (UNGA) in 2014. In December 2014, the UNGA passed a resolution declaring 21 June as 'International Yoga Day'. Since then, every year on 21st June, people in the country and the world celebrate Yoga Day. The United Nations describes yoga as an ancient practice combining physical, mental and spiritual elements that originated in India. The word 'Yoga' comes from Sanskrit, meaning to join or unite, symbolizing the integration of body and consciousness. Today yoga has become famous in India as well as all over the world.
