After the completion of a court-ordered videography survey of the Gyanvapi Masjid complex on Monday, Varanasi witnessed a high-voltage drama, as the Hindu side's counsel claimed that a Shivling was discovered close to the "wuzukhana" – a small reservoir used by Muslim devotees to perform ablutions before offering the namaz. The Hindu petitioner in the case, Sohan Lal Arya, claimed that the committee discovered a Shivling at the compound, and the Varanasi district court ordered the area to be sealed. The assertion was hotly challenged by a member of the mosque management committee, who said the object was part of the "wuzukhana's" water fountain mechanism.
