View In AppThe Supreme Court decided on Wednesday that a Muslim woman who is divorced can ask for financial support from her ex-husband under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The court said that this law applies to all women, not just married women. This means that a Muslim woman can get financial support from her ex-husband even if they are divorced. The court made this decision while rejecting a petition filed by a Muslim man who didn't want to pay financial support to his ex-wife. "We are dismissing the criminal appeal with the conclusion that Section 125 CrPC would be applicable to all women and not just married women," Justice Nagarathna said while delivering the verdict.
