View In AppDelhi Water Minister Atishi has written to Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, requesting the deployment of police personnel to patrol and protect major pipelines in Delhi for the next 15 days. This request comes in response to a significant water crisis exacerbated by a severe heatwave in the national capital. The crisis has been intensified by a drop in water production, reportedly by around 70 million gallons per day (MGD), due to a reduction in the water received from the Yamuna River. This shortage has led to widespread water scarcity in many parts of Delhi. To address the situation, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has already deployed patrol teams to monitor the main water distribution network. These teams are responsible for overseeing the pipelines that transport raw water to various Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) and subsequently to the main underground reservoirs across the city. Additionally, teams supervised by Assistant District Magistrates (ADMs) are supporting these efforts. The urgency of this deployment was underscored by a major leakage reported by the DJB's ground patrolling team in the south Delhi Rising Mains, a critical pipeline carrying water from the Sonia Vihar WTP to south Delhi. In light of this, Minister Atishi emphasized that every drop of water is precious in the current scenario and urged immediate action to safeguard the city's water infrastructure.
