According to sources, Atishi may take the oath as Delhi's Chief Minister on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, Vinay Kumar Saxena, has sent a letter to the President and the Home Ministry proposing September 21, 2024, as the date for Atishi's swearing-in as Chief Minister. However, no official date has been proposed by Atishi herself for the ceremony. Arvind Kejriwal submitted his resignation on Tuesday. Following Kejriwal's resignation to the Lieutenant Governor, designated Chief Minister Atishi immediately staked her claim to form a new government. At 43, Atishi will become Delhi's youngest Chief Minister. She will also be the second current female Chief Minister in the country, after Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal. Sheila Dikshit was the longest-serving Chief Minister of Delhi, holding the post for 15 years from 1998 to 2013, while Sushma Swaraj's tenure lasted just 52 days in 1998. Sheila Dikshit was 60 years old when she became CM, and Swaraj was 46. Atishi has handled important portfolios in the Delhi Cabinet, including Finance, Water, Education, Public Works, Power, Revenue, Planning, Services, Law, Vigilance, and other major departments. She played a key role in maintaining the stability of the Aam Aadmi Party, especially during the imprisonment of Arvind Kejriwal and other senior leaders, helping manage the party along with her colleagues.
