The demolition campaign began just days after community tensions arose in the area. Security was increased throughout the city on Wednesday morning, particularly in Jahangirpuri. The CRPF has deployed 12 companies (about 1,250 jawans) in two shifts across the city, with the majority of them based in and around Jahangirpuri.
Background:
A Delhi court directed the police to ensure that the probe into the Jahangirpuri clashes was carried out fairly in an order remanding two men in police custody for two days on Tuesday. The court sentenced Ansar and Saleem to two days in police prison, finding that "arrest and detention are justifiable on the basis of the reasons stated in the application." Furthermore, the investigating agency is directed to ensure that the investigation is conducted fairly."
