View In AppSouth Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has reversed his decision to impose martial law within just six hours. According to the Korea Herald, in response to widespread protests and public anger, the president withdrew his order on the morning of December 4, 2024, accepting the request of the National Assembly. He acknowledged that the sudden declaration of martial law was a short-term measure. At around 4:20 AM local time, Yoon addressed the nation, stating, "I am immediately accepting the request of the National Assembly and lifting the martial law through the Cabinet. I have called an urgent Cabinet meeting, but it is too early to complete the quorum yet... Once the quorum is met, I will lift the martial law." About 30 minutes after his address, another Cabinet meeting was convened, and approval to revoke the martial law was granted. This was in accordance with the relevant legal procedure for lifting martial law.
