Bihar Politics: Voter Rights at Risk, Says Tejashwi Yadav in Fiery Bihar Assembly Speech | ABP NEWS

ABP News Bureau   |  23 Jul 2025 12:37 PM (IST)

In a fiery speech in the Bihar Assembly, RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav raised strong objections to the ongoing voter list verification drive. He questioned the timing of the process and alleged that the Election Commission (EC) is unfairly targeting the poor, migrants, and opposition voters. Tejashwi claimed that the demand for 11 official documents to verify voter identity is unreasonable, especially in Bihar, where only 2.3% of citizens possess such documents. He further stated that many genuine voters, especially the 4 crore Bihari migrant workers, could lose their right to vote due to this flawed verification. He criticized the Election Commission for not including simpler documents like ration cards and MNREGA cards, and pointed out that even the Supreme Court had advised using Aadhaar linkage for voter ID. Tejashwi accused the government of creating fear by floating unverified claims about Bangladeshi, Nepali, and Myanmar nationals in the voter list. He warned that such tactics aim to disenfranchise poor and marginalized communities. Calling the drive politically motivated, he urged the Election Commission to act transparently and protect the democratic rights of all citizens.
